Bangalore, Aug 23: Software major Infosys today announced retirement of Lead Independent Director Marti G Subrahmanyam from the Board effective today as he turned 65 years old.

Subrahmanyam joined the Infosys Board in April 1998. The company, however, has decided not to appoint a new Lead Independent Director, since the current Board Chair is Independent, Infosys said in a statement.

"Subrahmanyam's contribution as a director over the last 13 years has been significant ... he is extremely well informed on developments across the globe and we will miss his counsel," Board Chairman K V Kamath said.

Subrahmanyam is the Charles E Merrill Professor of Finance, Economics and International Business at the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Thanking the board, Subrahmanyam said, "I feel a great sense of satisfaction and privilege to have been associated with this iconic company ... it upheld the best principles and practices in the area of corporate governance."

He has been a visiting professor at leading global academic institutions, including the University of Melbourne in Australia, LUISS in Italy and Singapore Management
University in Singapore.
