GNTO India Pool today continues to register steady growth in visitor overnights

Bangalore, Aug 9: The German National Tourist Office's (GNTO) India Pool today said Germany continues to register a steady growth in visitor overnights (international inbound tourists) from India.
"Germany continues to register a steady growth in tourism in visitor arrivals from India," GNTO Director (Marketing and Sales) Romit Theophilus told reporters here.
Germany is continuing its aggressive plans to promote Germany as a preferred leisure destinations for Indians.
During January-May 2011 period, a steep increase of 22.4 per cent or 2,05,991 visitor overnights were registered over the same period last year, Theophilus said.
In 2010, Germany received 4,55,655 overnights depicting an increase of 26.2 per cent over the previous year. "Visitors overnights have grown by 26.2 per cent over the corresponding period in 2009," he said.
Asked whether US downgrade would hurt tourism in Germany, Alpha Travel Consultants President and CEO Sebastian Worel said they were focussing more on countries like India, China and Russia to promote Germany as a preferred leisure
destination.
"In coming years, we will start going to Tier-2 cities to attract visitors to Germany. Infact, we are getting lot of traffic from places like Punjab, Lucknow and Pune," Worel added.
The last phase of the India Pool Sales Activity will be held in Mumbai and Hyderabad from October 10 to October 14 2011, Director Destinationmanagement Horst Lommatzsch said.
