Bangalore, Aug 23: Vishweshathirtha Swamiji of Sri Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha today urged Anna Hazare to temporarily call off his fast if the government's Lokpal Bill was withdrawn.

"It is neither right to accept the Jan Lokpal Bill under the sway of emotions nor in a hurry. It will be enough if we could (pressurise) the government to withdraw the existing Lokpal Bill before August 30. The fast could be temporarily called off if the government's proposed bill is withdrawn," he said in a letter written to Anna Hazare.

He also wrote that in next two to three months, the country needed to prepare the final bill and launch a movement to press Parliament to accept the same.

Giving reasons for calling off the fast, the religious leader contended it was impossible for the Lokpal panel to collect information about high government officials and ministers before August 30. He also said the question of selection process of Lokpal panel needs to be examined at length.

He argued that bringing Prime Minister under the ambit of the Bill would cause political instability in the country. "The Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by Anna Hazare is extremely powerful, but it needs thorough examination," he said.

A decision should be taken on the Bill after a thorough examination by political parties and important public figures, he added.
