Governor greets people on Rajyotsava eve

Bangalore, Oct 25: Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj
today greeted people of Karnataka on the eve of Rajyotsava
Day (Karnataka Formation Day), saying it is time to rejoice
and remember the great men who enriched Kannada Nadu and
language.
"Aloor Venkata Rao was the first person who dreamt of
unifying the state as early as 1905," he said.
Rajyotsava Day is celebrated on November 1 every year
because on this day in 1956, Mysore state, comprising most of
the area of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was merged
with the Kannada-speaking areas of Bombay and Madras
presidencies and principality of Hyderabad.
Several other personalities like Benegal Ramaraya,
Andanappa Doddameti, B M Sree, Shivaram Karanth, K V Puttappa,
Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, A N Krishna Rao, Goruru Ramaswamy
Iyengar, D V Gundappa raised their voice for unification of
Karnataka, the Governor said.
Great administrators like Sir M Visvesvaraiah and
Seshadri Iyer laid a solid foundation for modern Karnataka, he
added.
Several political leaders like Kengal Hanumanthaiah,
Nijalingappa led the state onto the path of prosperity, the
Governor said.
Karnataka being a land of sprituality, philosophies of
Advaita, Vishishtadvaita, Dwaita, Veerashaivism and Jainism
have been nurtured and flourished here, the Governor said.
"Moreover, the state has a rich bio-diversity and its
people are progressive, peace loving and tolerant," he said.
