Bangalore, Oct 12: Justice R Gururajan today resigned as Karnataka's Upa Lokayukta citing family and health problems.

Justice Gururajan, a former Karnataka High Court Judge, has already sent in his resignation to Governor H R Bhardwaj. In his resignation letter, he said there were sudden developments in his family circles and he had some health problems.

"In these circumstances and in consultation with my family members and well-wishers, I have tendered my resignation," he said.

Justice S B Majige is the present Upa Lokayukta and Justice Gururajan was the second Upa Lokayukta appointed in July this year by former Karnataka Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil. His name was recommended by former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and the Governor had approved it.

Justice Shivaraj Patil had quit as Lokayukta on September 19 following a controversy over allotment of housing sites for him and his wife allegedly violating rules.
