Bangalore, Dec 9: The National Committee for
Protection of Natural Resources (NCPNR), an NGO, today claimed
to have unearthed a land scam involving the Reddy brothers and
former minister B Sreeramulu illegally acquiring about 251
acres of agricultural land in and around Bellary town.
"Prima facie, we have found serious illegalities and
irregularities committed by Reddy brothers and Sreeramulu in
acquiring agricultural lands in violation of various land
norms including Land Reforms Act in and around Bellary town,"
NCPNR convenor S R Hiremath told reporters here.
Urging the BJP-ruled state government to take action
against over the Committee's findings, he said they would
approach the Supreme Court over the issue if no action was
taken on the findings within a month.
NCPNR in its findings charged Sreeramulu, his wife
Bhagyalaxmi, Gali Laxmi Aruna (wife of Janardhan Reddy),
Karunakara Reddy, Vanaja Reddy (wife of Karunakara Reddy),
Somashekhar Reddy, B V Srinivas Reddy and his wife Sarita of
having allegedly used agricultural land for private purpose.
While Aruna acquired 133 acres of land, Sreeramulu and
Karunakara Reddy acquired 64 and 54 acres of land
respectively, Hiremath alleged.
"We had moved the Supreme Court to ban illegal mining in
the state. We will do the same if government does not heed to
our demand," Hiremath said, adding he would soon meet Chief
Secretary S V Ranganath in this regard.
