Bangalore, Dec 5: Regional Censor Officer of Central
Board of Film Certification K Nagaraju today dismissed as
'baseless and mischievous' bribery charges levelled against
him by Kannada film producer Madan Patel and said the board
was contemplating a defamation suit.
"Allegations made by Patel are false, baseless and
mischievous and appears he has done this to get cheap
publicity," he told reporters here.
"CBFC is contemplating to file a criminal suit against
Patel... our regional office has sought legal opinion in this
regard," he said.
Patel yesterday levelled allegations against Nagaraju
saying the officer had asked Rs 50,000 bribe for censoring two
songs of his controversial film 'Satyananda' and Rs five lakh
for censoring the entire film.
He had also alleged there was no problem from Hyderabad and
Chennai censor officers in clearing his film.
"While a few film makers might have differed with the
rating awarded to the film or cuts recommended, it goes
without saying that every producer have seen the prompt and
honest functioning of the regional office," Nagaraju said.
The film has courted controversy after self-styled godman
Nithyananda moved the court seeking to stay of the film
apprehending that it was based on some of the aspects of his
life in the wake of rape and other criminal charges against
him.
The CBFC has sought legal opinion from its chairperson on
two issues - whether CBFC can go ahead with examination and
certification of the promo song while the issue was before the
court and whether it is a case of subjudice, Nagaraju said.
