Bangalore, Nov 25: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara
Palike's Executive Engineer of Gandhinagar constituency
Idinavendan was arrested today in connection with the
multi-crore fake bill scam.
The arrest comes in the wake of demand by opposition
parties for a CBI inquiry into Rs 1,539-crore bogus bill scam
of BBMP (city corporation) in the assembly constituencies of
Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Gandhinagar and Malleshwaram.
Opposition parties also alleged that the fire incident in
the Palike building on November 19 was a "conspiracy to
destroy files pertaining to fake bill scam".
A large number of files and important documents were
reportedly destroyed in the fire that broke out in the BBMP
main office. However, there were no casualties.
JDS state President H D Kumaraswamy and Karnataka Pradesh
Congress Committee President G Parameshwar alleged that the
fire was an "attempt to sabotage" the ongoing inquiry into the
multi-crore fake bill scam.
The incident took place a fortnight after a case was
registered in connection with the scam with irregularities
suspected to the tune of Rs 1,539 crore.
The massive fraud in payament of bills running to several
hundred crores had occurred between 2008-2011, a preliminary
assessment made by the Technical Vigilance Cell of BBMP has
indicated.
The scam was unearthed by the Technical Vigilance
Committee and BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah had filed a complaint
with the Bangalore Metroplitan Task Force police on November
four.
